Motivational Quotes
Politics
Before we get too depressed about the state of our politics, let's remember our history. The great debates of the past, all stirred great passions. They all made somebody angry, and at least once led to a terrible war. What is amazing, is that despite all the conflict, our experiment in democracy has worked better than any form of government on earth.

Best Quotes about Politics
No political party has exclusive patent rights on prosperity.
Roosevelt, Franklin D.
In politics... never retreat, never retract... never admit a mistake.
Bonaparte, Napoleon
People start parades -- politicians just get out in front and act like they're leading.
Rinehart, Dana Gillman
A passion for politics stems usually from an insatiable need, either for power, or for friendship and adulation, or a combination of both.
Brodie, Fawn M.
Every political system is an accumulation of habits, customs, prejudices, and principles that have survived a long process of trial and error and of ceaseless response to changing circumstances. If the system works well on the whole, it is a lucky accident -- the luckiest, indeed, that can befall a society.
Banfield, Edward C.
The diplomatic name for the law of the jungle.
Culbertson, Ely
A party of order or stability, and a party of progress or reform, are both necessary elements of a healthy state of political life.
Mill, John Stuart
Once you run for office, you're in it -- sort of like going into the military. You'd better be damned sure it is what you want to do and that the rest of your life is set up to accommodate that. It takes a certain toll on your personality and on your family life. I've seen it personally.
Kennedy Jr., John F.
When the political columnists say'Every thinking man'they mean themselves, and when candidates appeal to'Every intelligent voter'they mean everybody who is going to vote for them.
Franklin P. Adams
Politics, when I am in it, it makes me sick.
Taft, William Howard
The two maxims of any great man at court are, always to keep his countenance and never to keep his work.
Swift, Jonathan
A politician would do well to remember that he has to live with his conscience longer than he does with his constituents.
Laird, Melvin R.
Nobody is a friend of ours. Let's face it.
Nixon, Richard M.
An empty stomach is not a good political advisor.
Einstein, Albert
Politics are now nothing more than means of rising in the world. With this sole view do men engage in politics, and their whole conduct proceeds upon it.
Johnson, Samuel
In the school of political projectors, I was but ill entertained, the professors appearing, in my judgment, wholly out of their senses; which is a scene that never fails to make me melancholy. These unhappy people were proposing schemes for persuading monarchs to choose favorites upon the score of their wisdom, capacity, and virtue; of teaching ministers to consult the public good; of rewarding merit, great abilities, and eminent services, of instructing princes to know their true interest, by placing it on the same foundation with that of their people; of choosing for employment persons qualified to exercise them; with many other wild impossible chimeras, that never entered before into the heart of man to conceive; and confirmed in me the old observation, that there is nothing so extravagant and irrational which some philosophers have not maintained for truth.
Swift, Jonathan
It is as hard and severe a thing to be a true politician as to be truly moral.
Bacon, Francis
I am in politics because of the conflict between good and evil, and I believe that in the end good will triumph.
Thatcher, Margaret
Politics is the entertainment branch of industry.
Rome had Senators too, and that is why it declined.
Dane, Frank
The most difficult choice a politician must ever make is whether to be a hypocrite or a liar.
It is far easier for the proverbial camel to pass through the needle's eye, hump and all, than for an erstwhile colonial administration to give sound and honest counsel of a political nature to its liberated territory.
Nkrumah, Kwame
Nothing can so alienate a voter from the political system as backing a winning candidate.
Mark B. Cohen
In politics a straight line is the shortest distance to disaster.
Roche, John P.
One can say that three pre-eminent qualities are decisive for the politician: passion, a feeling of responsibility, and a sense of proportion.
Weber, Max
In Mexico an air conditioner is called a politician because it makes a lot of noise but doesn't work very well.
Deighton, Len
The apparent rulers of the English nation are like the imposing personages of a splendid procession: it is by them the mob are influenced; it is they whom the spectators cheer. The real rulers are secreted in second-rate carriages; no one cares for them or asks after them, but they are obeyed implicitly and unconsciously by reason of the splendor of those who eclipsed and preceded them.
Bagehot, Walter
A politician's words reveal less about what he thinks about his subject than what he thinks about his audience.
Will, George F.
Nothing is so foolish, they say, as for a man to stand for office and woo the crowd to win its vote, buy its support with presents, court the applause of all those fools and feel self-satisfied when they cry their approval, and then in his hour of triumph to be carried round like an effigy for the public to stare at, and end up cast in bronze to stand in the market place.
Erasmus, Desiderius
The reason political party platforms are so long is that when you straddle anything it takes a long time to explain it.
Rogers, Will
When they call the roll in the Senate, the senators do not know whether to answer present or not guilty.
Roosevelt, Theodore
I am really sorry to see my countrymen trouble themselves about politics. If men were wise, the most arbitrary princes could not hurt them. If they are not wise, the freest government is compelled to be a tyranny. Princes appear to me to be fools. Houses of Commons and Houses of Lords appear to me to be fools; they seem to me to be something else besides human life.
Blake, William
In the domain of Political Economy, free scientific inquiry meets not merely the same enemies as in all other domains. The peculiar nature of the material it deals with, summons as foes into the field of battle the most violent, mean and malignant passions of the human breast, the Furies of private interest.
Marx, Karl
Politics are almost as exciting as war, and quite as dangerous. In war you can only be killed once, but in politics many times.
Churchill, Winston
If we choose only to expose ourselves to opinions and viewpoints that are in line to our own, we become more polarized, more set in our own ways. It will only reinforce and deepen the political divides in our country. But if we choose to actively seek out information that challenges our assumptions and beliefs, perhaps we can begin to understand where the people who disagree with us are coming from.
President Barack Obama
Politics is the art of the next best.
Bismarck, Otto Von
Successful democratic politicians are insecure and intimidated men. They advance politically only as they placate, appease, bribe, seduce, bamboozle, or otherwise manage to manipulate the demanding and threatening elements in their constituencies. The decisive consideration is not whether the proposition is good but whether it is popular -- not whether it will work well and prove itself but whether the active talking constituents like it immediately. Politicians rationalize this servitude by saying that in a democracy public men are the servants of the people.
Lippmann, Walter
There is an increasingly pervasive sense not only of failure, but of futility. The legislative process has become a cruel shell game and the service system has become a bureaucratic maze, inefficient, incomprehensible, and inaccessible.
Richardson, Elliot
A man who is a politician at forty is a statesman at three score and ten. It is at this age, when he would be too old to be a clerk or a gardener or a police-court magistrate, that he is ripe to govern a country.
Maugham, W. Somerset
Did you ever notice that when a politician does get an idea he usually gets it all wrong.
Marquis, Don
Politics is like a race horse. A good jockey must know how to fall with the least possible damage.
Herriot, Edouard
The highest political buzz word is not liberty, equality, fraternity or solidarity; it is service.
Clough, Arthur Hugh
Nothing is so admirable in politics as a short memory.
John Kenneth Galbraith
In politics the middle way is none at all.
Adams, John
Any man with a fine shock of hair, a good set of teeth, and a bewitching smile can park his brains, if he has any, and run for public office.
What is a democrat? One who believes that the republicans have ruined the country. What is a republican? One who believes that the democrats would ruin the country.
Bierce, Ambrose
Man is by nature a political animal.
Aristotle
Politics is the art of preventing people from taking part in affairs which properly concern them.
Paul Valery
This country has gotten where it is in spite of politics, not by the aid of it. That we have carried as much political bunk as we have and still survived shows we are a super nation.
Rogers, Will
If there is anything a public servant hates to do it is something for the public.
Hubbard, Kin
