Its a harvest festival where poeple celebrates the ancient homecoming of the king Mahabali who ruled the state for a very long time. During the festival the people of the state seems joyful as they decorate their homes, visit temples, perform poojas, make Pookalam (Flower carpets), buy new clothes, dress up in their traditional attire, and visit relatives.Not only is this, but the famous annual snake boat race performed on Pamba River is one of the prime attraction during Onam celebrations.
