Chhath Puja is an important Hindu festival celebrated widely in Northern India, prominently in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.Chhath Puja is also observed in other parts of the country such as Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Delhi and Mumbai.This festival, also known as Surya Shashti, is dedicated to Sun God, Surya.Chhath Puja is celebrated to express gratitude towards Sun God for sustaining life on earth.Prayers are offered to please Sun God to promote prosperity, well being and progress.This festival is generally celebrated in the month of October or November.According to the Hindu Calendar, the date of the Chhath Puja falls on the sixth day of the Kartik month.Since Chhath Puja is notably celebrated in the northern region of the India where Bhojpuri is spoken, a number of Bhojpuri Chhath Puja songs are popular among the masses.
