Sarbananda Sonowal is currently the Union Minister of State-Independent Charge for Sports & Youth Affairs, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship for the Republic of India from BJP, Lakhimpur Constituency Assam, India. Currently, also serving as The State President for BJP Assam Pradesh. He is also a National Executive Member of the BJP. Sonowal was the president of the All Assam Students Union from 1992 to 1999. He is currently a Member of the 16th Lok Sabha of India, representing the Lakhimpur constituency of Assam. Until January 2011, he was a member of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) political party but was later invited to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).He is popularly known as A Firebrand & Dynamic Youth Politician, also regarded as a Jatiya Nayak of Assam, a title given by the ASSU,the oldest student body of the state.
