The Aboti Brahmins of the city is known to perform the daily routine of the Janmashtami pooja. It is known as nitya kram of the Lord. The day of the Janmashtami celebration in Dwarka breaks with mangla aarti performed in almost all the temples of the city. Then the brushing and cleaning of the Dwarkadheesh is done. And the darshans are allowed to devotees. The God is also offered Banta Bhog or milk and milk products. Then Lord is given holy bath. After this, the Lord is adorned with clothes and ornaments. And for a little while in the evening, the Lord is allowed to sleep. The actual Janmashtami celebration in Dwarka begins at around 11 pm. At this time, He is decked up with precious stones and diamonds. He is offered utsav bhog to eat. And then devotees are allowed to make their offerings. At exact 12, aarti is performed and sung. The idol of the Lord is rocked in the bejeweled cradle. Even devotees are allowed one by one to rock the cradle and get blessed. Puja is completed after two hours and is rounded up with mahabhog offered to the Lord.
