Stefan Groothuis

Dutch speed skater Stefan Groothuis is the reigning sprint champion with gold in the 1000 meters at the winter Olympics 2014, taking the Dutch supremacy over speed skating to four golds. Groothuis first major international was in 2005. Aged 32 and born on 23rd November, he is married to Ester Groothuis and has two children. Groothuis represented the Netherlands in previous Olympics at Vancouver 2010 and Torino 2006 making this his third Olympic games. Groothuis is an inspiration for athletes having recovered from psychological problems in 2011, a severed Achilles tendon in 2008 and a fibula fracture again in 2013.
