Antarctica

Antarctica is located in the Antarctic area in the Southern Hemisphere. It is southernmost continent on Earth and is the geographical South Pole. Area wise, it happens to be the fifth largest continent. Almost 98% of this region is covered with ice with an average of a minimum of 1.9 kilometres in thickness. It is the driest, windiest, and coldest continent on earth with the greatest average elevation as compared to all the other continents. Only organisms adapted to cold can survive such as certain varieties of algae, fungi, bacteria, protista, plants, and animals, like mites, nematodes, seals, tardigrades, and penguins.
