Prepare the Work Area

The surface should be non conductive and non static. When building a system it is important to avoid static electricity, which can damage sensitive electronic components such as those used in a computer. To avoid static build up the person building the system should use a static reducing device such as an antistatic wrist strap. This is normally placed around the wrist and has a lead that attaches to a special plug or is connected to a known earth.
