It been a cleanup week in central government offices with cobwebs being cleaned up, corridor clutter removed, old furniture discarded or overhauled, and office environs spruced up, tidied and polished like never before.Modi will now symbolically wield a broom and reach out to all Indians to make cleanliness a mass movement by launching the Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan or Clean India Mission.Its launch Oct 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, has a lot of significance as Father of the Nation had a penchant for cleanliness in his personal habits and sought to promote it in his environs in every way.

India fares poorly in access to toilets, especially in its semiurban and rural areas, while its urban areas face problems related to hygiene and poor sanitation standards.Garbage disposal and hygiene standards in many commercial establishments leave much to be desired.According to Census 2011, only 32.70 per cent of rural households had access to toilets.According to a UN report released this year, India continues to have the largest number of people in the world defecating in the open.

The AAP on Tuesday said that it would join the nation in cleanliness drive Oct 2, but would not be a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.Earlier, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had tweeted AAP will join Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on 2nd Oct.But condition of safai karamchari ought to be improved if we want a clean India.However, AAP spokesperson Nagendar Sharma said that Kejriwal quote cannot be disputed but that was not the official line of the party.We will not be the part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, he added.

26. 100 Hours Every Year To Cleanliness For Swachh Bharat
Under Swachh Bharat campaign government will spend near about Rs.11 crore to construct 11 lakh toilets in India.Every gram panchayat, panchayat samiti and Zila Parishad in the country will be involved in the initiative for its success.Many big corporates are becoming part of the campaign.Bharti and TCS have announced their plans to provide financial help for the success of the campaign.It is expected that World Bank will also contribute.
27. Swachh Bharat Mission Challenges
Swachh Bharat Mission looks an ambitious project where the focus is towards building toilets.To make it a mass movement PM Modi has involved many celebrities Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra as a brand ambassadors for the cause.The government has also contacted yoga guru Baba Ramdev, Art of Living guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the Ramakrishna Mission and the Kanchi Kamakoti Peeth and government is still in the process of pursuing the Catholic Bishops Conference of India and Muslim clerics to become the part of the campaign.
28. Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan
Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan was launched by UPA government in 2012 with an objective to eliminate problem of open defecation.Total Sanitation Campaign in 1999 was revamped to Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan in which guidelines were modified and new strategies were made.But again, the Abhiyan was not a success.The union cabinet has now approved to restructure Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan into Swachh Bharat Mission.The programme will be implemented by the drinking water and sanitation ministry in rural areas whereas the urban development ministry will do it in urban areas.The mission thus have two subdivisions Swachh Bharat Mission (rural) and Swachh Bharat Mission (urban).
29. Clean India Mission beyond politics says Modi
Wielding the broom, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched the country biggestever cleanliness drive that is expected to cost over Rs 62,000 crore, asserting that the Swachh Bharat mission is beyond politics and inspired by patriotism.Debunking criticism that his government has been taking credit for every achievement, the Prime Minister acknowledged the efforts of all previous governments to make India clean.I am not talking politics this is beyond politics.This is inspired my patriotism not politics.We do not have to do with an eye on politics.I say that with a clean heart.If we paint this again with a brush of politics, we will again do a disservice to mother India.All the governments in this country have made one or the other effort to do this work.Several political, social and cultural organisations have made efforts in this direction.I greet all those, who have worked, Modi said in his 25minute address at Rajpath, where he formally kicked off the fiveyearlong campaign that will cover 4,041 statutory towns.
