Marriage

If you are married, you may have discovered why marriage is important.
11. Someone who understands you
Marriage is a long term commitment. As such, marriage creates the unique opportunity for someone other than a family member, to know and understand you inside and out.
12. Encourages personal growth
Married life is totally different from the kind of life lived by singles. Marriage brings you into a world where you have never been before, and this world teaches you a lot of lessons that lead to your growth as an individual. Marriage has the ability to transform a person holistically as he gains a much bigger perspective of life.
13. Security
Married couples have a better sense of companionship and security than couples that just live together. Marriage helps give the assurance that the union between spouses is permanent. This sense of security is not experienced by couples that just live together, because nothing as strong as marriage is there to keep them together.
14. True love
When two people are together and love each other, it does not matter to them whether they are married or not all they know is that they are in love. However, the act of marriage symbolizes a relinquishing of your rights for the sake of the one you love. This selfless action is one of the most obvious forms of true love.
15. Genuine respect
Marriage reveals many things about a person that might not have been so obvious while dating. Some of these discoveries will challenge spouses to see each other as they really are and still respect each other.
16. A smart investment
Like any investment, your return is dependent on how much you invest. Nevertheless, marriage offers one of the best returns available. As a study for the Office of National Statistics shows, marriage makes people happier than having a six figure salary. Therefore, by investing in your marriage, you have a higher return of happiness.
17. Happiness
Its difficult to determine whether married people are happier because they are married or they marry because they were happy to begin with. Nevertheless, research has shown that married people are happier than those who remain single.
18. A license to be daring
You may think that marriage is the cage that traps the desire to live on the wild side. But the opposite is true couples can encourage each other to do things that they would not have done otherwise such as going on a long hike, travel, bungee jumping, sky diving, etc.
19. Confidence
The caveat to this is the fact that confidence in marriage can go either way. A verbally abusive spouse who consistently demeans his/her partner will creative a caustic environment in which confidence will be non existent. On the other hand, in a stable marriage, partners can encourage each other which in turn creates an environment that promotes self confidence and worth.
20. Help against cancer
According to studies, divorced and never married people are more likely to develop cancers such as breast cancer and prostate cancer compared to married people.
