Rules to play Kayaking

1. The Game
The game, knwn as Kayak Pl r Cane Pl, is played in many cuntries n all cntinents, fr recreatin and serius sprt. The sprt has Wrld Champinships every 2 years. Internatinally the sprt is rganised by the Cane Pl cmmittee f the Internatinal Cane Federatin, as ne f the disciplines f the sprt f caneing. In 2005 Cane Pl was cntested at the Wrld Games in Duisburg Germany under the patrnage f the Internatinal lympic Cmmittee. The game is ften described as a cmbinatin f water pl, basketball and kayaking. The tactics and playing f the game are nt unlike basketball r water pl but with the added cmplexity f the bats, which can be used t shield the ball.
2. The Rules
The ball, a waterpl ball, is passed frm hand t hand amng the players, with sme use f the paddle n the ball als allwed. A player in pssessin can be tackled by being pushed ver n the shulder r back, players may nly have the ball in their pssessin fr a maximum f five secnds. Players can dribble the ball by thrwing it ne meter r mre, ahead f themselves r sideways int the water. Mst f the rules cncern the safety f the players invlved.Fr example illeagal substitutin and entry int the playing area (see belw),illeagal use f the paddle,illeagal actin against a capsized player,illeagal jstle and illeagal screening. Penalties include gal and sideline thrws, free shts, gal penalty shts, and penalty cards. Substitutins can be made at any time during the game withut ntifying the referee, the player has t crss the back line befre anther player can cme n. If these rules are nt fllwed a player is nminated by the captain f the ffending team t be remved frm play (sent ff).
3. The Pitch
Cane pl is played either indrs in swimming pls r utdrs n a pitch which shuld measure 35 metres by 23 metres. The edges f the pitch are marked by the sides f the pl, r better, by flating rpes (similar t lane markers in swimming).
4. Referees
There are tw referees (ne n each side line) and they are n ft rather than in bats. The scre is kept by the screkeeper and the timekeeper mnitrs the playing time and sending ff times. The gal lines are mnitred by 2 line judges. Befre play cmmences scrutineers check all kit fr cmpliance with regulatins
5. Gals
The gals (measuring 1 by 1.5 metres) are a frame with a net, suspended 2 metres abve the water. A player, acting as galie, defends the gal with their paddle by sticking it up vertically, special rules cncern the galie, such as: the attacking team nt being able t interfere with r jstle them. The length f the paddles used by the galies are ften lnger than thse used by ther players.
6. Timing
The game is fficially played as a 20 minute game cnsisting f tw 10 minute halves. The teams swap ends at half time. Each half begins with a sprint where each team lines up against its gal line and the ball is thrwn int the middle f the pitch by the referee. ne player frm each team sprints t win pssessin f the ball.

8. Sht Clck
A sht clck was recently intrduced t speed up the game. The attacking team have 60 secnds t have a sht n the gal r they lse pssessin. The sht clck is reset when the ball is intercepted by the ppsing team r the attacking team lses pssessin. The sht clck is a recent additin t the rules and due t its expense and cmplexity f the equipment needed is nt used universally.
9. Ball
A water pl ball is cnstructed f buyant material t allw it t flat n the water. The cver is textured t give players additinal grip. The size f the ball is different fr mens, wmens and junir games.
10. Buyancy Aids
A Buyancy aid is used t prtect the players trs frm injury, and must prvide an inch f fam n the frnt, sides and back f the player. All buyancy aids are numbered t make the player identifiable t the ther players, referees and spectatrs. Buyancy aids are reversible and are clured with the teams primary and secndary clurs n each side. This allws ppnents t reverse their buyancy aids and play in their away clurs if the ppsing teams primary clur is the same r similar.
