Know World Carnival
Carnival is a festive season which occurs immediately before Lent.
1. Panafest Ghana Africa
Panafest is a cultural event held in Ghana every two years (July-August) for Africans and people of African descent. The idea of this festival is to promote and enhance unity, Pan-Africanism, and the development of the continent of Africa itself. Activities that occur at this festival are performances and work in the areas of theatre, drama, music, and poetry, among other things. Also, there are viewing of the durbar of Chiefs, and tours to various places of interest, such as slave castle dungeons.
2. Pflasterspektakel Austria
Pflasterspektakel is an annual street art festival in Linz, the capital of Upper Austria. It includes musical acts, juggling, acrobatics, pantomime, improvisational theatre, clownery, fire dancing, painting, samba parades, as well as a programme for children, and is held on three days during month of July.
3. The Carnival of Rio de Janeiro Brazil
World famous festival held before Lent every year (during February or March) and considered the biggest carnival in the world. The typical Rio carnival parade is filled with revelers, floats and adornments from numerous samba school, one of the many main purposes of the Rio carnival parade is for samba schools to compete with each other. The samba schools work to build the best floats,costumes, lyrics, aesthetics, to represent their themes, and to include the best music they can from their drumming band called the bateria
4. Harbin Ice and Snow Festival China
The Harbin festival is the largest ice and snow festival in the world, the festival starts on January 5th and lasts one month.Ice and Snow World features illuminated full size buildings made from blocks of 2?3 feet thick crystal clear ice directly taken from the Songhua River. There are ice lantern park touring activities held in many parks in the city. People build incredible things out of ice and snow, decorating them with lights and lasers.
5. Chinese New Year China
Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the lunar new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors. This is celebrated from January 21st to Feburary 20, making the festival the longest in the Chinese calendar. This is also a occassion for family get-together, the celebration includes decorating the house, traditional dragon dances , and fireworks.
6. Glastonbury Music Festival England
The Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts is a performing arts festival that takes place near Pilton, Somerset, England, best known for its contemporary music, but also for dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret and other arts. The festival is celebrated during month of June.
7. Fantasy Fest Key West Florida
The Fantasy Fest is a ten day celebration during last week of October, which includes balls, a parade, costume competitions, AIDS fundraisers, body painting, drag queen contests, costume parties, alcohol, and pet and neighborhood parades for the whole family. The highlight of Fantasy Fest is its parade featuring humorous floats, including one carrying the annually elected Conch King and Queen.
8. Oktoberfest Munich Germany
Oktoberfest is one of the most famous events in Germany and is the worlds largest fair, with more than 6 million people from around the world attending the event every year during month of September-October. This 16 days long festival is full of events and beer parties. You can also enjoy wide variety of tradional food with beer.
9. Spice Mas Carnival Grenada
The premier cultural event, "Spice Mas" is Grenadian expression in all its glory, celebrated during month of August, this annual event with multiple activities takes months of planning and coordination. Brimming with pageantry and expression linked to our African, French, British and Caribbean heritage, Carnival is colourful, humorous and full of surprises such as Calypso music, a steel band competition, elaborate dress, and plenty of big events.
10. Kumbh Mela Festival India
"Kumbh Mela" is a Hindu pilgrimage of faith in which Hindus gather to bathe in a sacred river. It is considered to be largest peaceful gathering in the world with over 100 million people visiting from different parts of the world. It is held every third year at one of the four places by rotation: Haridwar, Allahabad (Prayag), Nashik and Ujjain. Thus the Kumbh Mela is held at each of these four places every twelfth year. The pilgrimage is held for about one and a half months at each of these four places where it is believed in Hinduism that drops of nectar fell from the kumbha carried by gods after the sea was churned
