Precaution while using LPG
The following precautions must be taken while using LPG cylinder.
21. In situ or tankerfill supply
If you use a lot of LPG, you probably have large cylinders or even tanks on your property. This is known as in situ or tankerfill supply and instead of needing to order, your gas will be delivered on a regular basis from your local terminal.Because your LPG is delivered based on a schedule that suits your typical usage, its important to let us know as soon as possible if youre running low or using more LPG than usual. This allows an LPG tanker to get to your property sooner to refill your gas and if required, the frequency of your regular gas deliveries can be increased.
22. Single cylinder
Finally, if you dont use a lot of LPG, you may only have one cylinder on your property. This is common with residential customers who only use gas for cooking or who live in warmer climates like Queensland. If there is only one cylinder on your property, we recommend paying special attention to your usage by marking the dates of your LPG orders on a calendar so you can work out when your next order will fall due. Its also a good idea to give us a call to check delivery time frames before placing your order.
23. Check the level of gas in your cylinders
If you use LPG cylinders, you can check how much gas is left by using the hot water test. Carefully pour hot water down the side of the cylinder and then, after a few moments, run your hand down it. It will feel cool to the touch at the level of the gas. Of course, exercise caution when handling the hot water.Larger tanks will have a gauge which measures how much gas is left.
24. Be conscious of house guests and new appliances
While utilityusing visitors and shiny new gas appliances are two of our favourite things, they may not be yours if they run you out of gas! Be conscious that youll go through LPG faster with the additional usage. Safety and well being of people is of utmost concern at all Jyothi Gas business units. Our safety view encompasses our own assets and people, as well as those of our customers, partners and the general public.
25. Plan to order earlier in winter
When the cold sets in and your gas heater comes on, youll go through LPG much quicker. Even if you dont have gas heating, your local terminal will be much busier than in the warmer months and its a wise idea to leave plenty of time for delivery. The empty cylinders must be stored in a cool and well ventilated place with safety cap put on.
26. Ask about delivery arrangements in your area
Delivery days vary from location to location. This is because most LPG suppliers plan their delivery runs to provide all their customers with regular opportunities to receive gas. This may mean deliveries in your area happen daily, twiceweekly, on the same day each week, or as required depending on the orders received. When you first set up an account with us or next time youre talking to our LPG experts, its a good idea to learn when deliveries usually occur in your neighbourhood. That way youll have a guide to how far in advance you need to place your orders.
27. Allow clear access to your property
If we cant get access to your property, we may not be able to deliver your LPG. If there are any dogs, goats or crocodiles about (were looking at you, Darwin customers!) make sure theyre restrained and let us know in advance so we can make a note for any future deliveries.Gates should also be left unlocked, and anything blocking access to your LPG installation will need to be cleared.
28. Comparison with natural gas
LPG is composed primarily of propane and butane, while natural gas is composed of the lighter methane and ethane. LPG, vaporised and at atmospheric pressure, has a higher calorific value (94MJ/m3 equivalent to 26.1kWh/m3) than natural gas (methane) (38MJ/m3 equivalent to 10.6kWh/m3), which means that LPG cannot simply be substituted for natural gas. In order to allow the use of the same burner controls and to provide for similar combustion characteristics, LPG can be mixed with air to produce a synthetic natural gas (SNG) that can be easily substituted. LPG/air mixing ratios average 60/40, though this is widely variable based on the gases making up the LPG. The method for determining the mixing ratios is by calculating the Wobbe index of the mix. Gases having the same Wobbe index are held to be interchangeable.
29. Liquefied petroleum gas or liquid petroleum gas
Liquefied petroleum gas or liquid petroleum gas (LPG or LP gas), also referred to as simply propane or butane, is a flammable mixture of hydrocarbon gases used as a fuel in heating appliances, cooking equipment, and vehicles. It is increasingly used as an aerosol propellant and a refrigerant, replacing chlorofluorocarbons in an effort to reduce damage to the ozone layer. When specifically used as a vehicle fuel it is often referred to as autogas.
30. Adequate ventilation in the home
It is important that the home have proper ventilation when using LPG. This will forestall any breathing problems that may result from inhaling the gas. As such, homeowners must ensure that the doors are not sealed
