21. False Lashes
If you want a more dramatic look, or if your lashes are not very long, opt to use false lashes. Falsies, as they are sometimes called, are available in all shapes, colors and sizes a mind can imagine. Heres what to do with them: cut the length to fit your lash line if you need to, and apply as close to the top lash line possible. This may take some time to master, but practice makes perfect, as we know.
22. Latisse
If you dont like to wear falsies or if you want more natural looking long lashes, guess what now theres a solution available from the pharmacy. Theres a product out in the market called Latisse, which is a brand name for a generic drug called Bimatoprost Opthalmic Solution. This solution was originally used to treat glaucoma in the eyes. The patients were pleasantly surprised to see that the side effect of this medicine was unusual growth of lashes. The makers of Latisse have packaged it to be a solution for hypotrichosis (having inadequate or not enough eyelashes), used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker. The original medicinal use for glaucoma was to put it directly in the eye, but with Latisse you only apply it to the lash line. The only negative side effect that Ive heard of with Latisse, is increased brown pigmentation in the iris of the eye if the solution gets into the eyes. That would be a problem for light colored eyes like mine, but not for dark colored eyes. In order to see results you must use the liquid religiously for about 16 weeks. If you stop using Latisse, the eyelashes go back to their natural length and thickness. In the US, and some other countries Latisse can only be acquired through a prescription from a doctor. It is also quite pricey, so if you are on a budget, there are generic versions available. I found one called Careprost and it costs only $11 US. You can buy it online.
23. Plan to wait for several months
Eyebrows take a long time to grow back fully after theyve been over plucked. For some people it might only take six weeks, but others may have to wait a full year before their eyebrows regain their former shape. The best thing you can do for your brows is be patient. Look at it this way: at least your brows wont need a lot of maintenance for awhile.
24. Stop plucking and waxing
You probably already know this one, but its worth emphasizing that plucking or waxing around your eyebrows isnt going to help them grow faster. In fact, sometimes plucking and waxing eyebrows damages the hair follicle permanently, preventing the hair from ever growing back.
25. Grow them in rows
If you cant stand the idea of letting all your hairs grow out before you shape your eyebrows, try the row growing strategy. Allow a row of hair to grow out and pluck the stray hairs around it. When the row is finished growing in, start on the next row. Continue growing your brows out a row at a time until theyre finished growing back. This method gives your brows a neater appearance while still allowing you to grow them back. The row growing method may take quite a long time, so be prepared to wait even longer than you would if you just let your brows grow back all at once.
26. Skip the Stencils
The perfect brow is based on your unique bone structure. Using a stencil to draw on your brows may seem like it takes the guesswork out of shaping. But you may not like the results. A stenciled brow thats just a little bit off can make you look angry, surprised, older, or even lopsided. No thanks! Better to work with your natural brow shape.
27. Make Brows Match Your Hair
If you make a dramatic hair color change, your brows should change, too. Youll want to see a professional colorist. Dont dye your brows at home, even if you have a really steady hand. Need a quick fix Blend mascara or concealer into your brows to instantly go darker or lighter.
28. Use the Right Tweezers
Rounded tip or pointy Experts like a pointed, slanted tip, especially if you havent plucked before. You can hold that shape easily and grab longer hairs. For those short, stubborn hairs, turn the tweezer at an angle and pull from the pointed edge.
29. When to Put the Tweezers Down
If you see a teeny little dot of hair growing under the skin, resist the urge to pull it. You dont want to break the skin and risk a scar. Wait a day and that little hair probably will poke through the surface, ready to be plucked. In the meantime, if it bothers you, cover it with concealer.
30. Let a Pro Guide You
If you arent sure about your own brow judgment, a salon specialist can find the best shape for your face. Snap a few photos for reference at home. To keep your new look fresh, lightly pluck new hair growth once a week. For best results, make another appointment four to six weeks later.
