Match : India V Australia
Venue : Chennai, India : Year 2001

This match was in many ways an exhibition of test cricket. The series was levelled 1-1 before the Chennai test and when Australia put up 391 in their first innings thanks to Mathew Hayden's double hundred, they were in a very strong position. All this changed once Sachin came out to bat and scored a majestic 126 to help India surpass the 500-run mark. India never really looked back from there and despite a lion-hearted effort by Jason Gillespie, India won the match by 2 wickets.

Buoyed by a brisk opening stand of 133 between Sachin and Ganguly, India made the task look easy. Sachin went to score his century at a run-a-ball and guide India to a comfortable win.

Both the openers scored centuries and enjoyed a partnership of 193 in just 35 overs. Ironically, South Africa then rode on Sachin's 'guru' to reach 280 with nearly 2 overs to spare. Gary Kirsten made a wonderful 133.

Match : India V England
Venue : Ahmedabad, India : Year 2001

It was a very patient knock by the little master on a fairly difficult track and under pressure. England had batted first at Motera and notched up a competitive 407 with very useful contributions coming from batsmen down the order. Indian batsmen struggled against the left-arm spin of Ashley Giles but Sachin ensured the damage would be limited. His knock took so much time off the test that England couldn't press home for a win. India retained their 1-0 lead.
