Precautions while using Earphones

Using earphones is a fantastic way to get a much better experience when you're enjoying music.
41. Using clip earphones
The right ear clip phone is labeled R whilethe left ear clip phone is labeled L. 1. Slide the ear hook behind the ear with the ear pad on the front of the ear. 2. For best sound quality, make sure the ear pad fits closely with your ear.
42. Caution while driving
Use of headphones while operating anautomobile or moving vehicle is notrecommended and is unlawful in somestates and areas. Be careful and attentiveon the road. Stop operation of the unit ifyou find it disruptive or distracting whiledriving.
43. Your Ears are Not Replaceable
Its easy to ignore the potential for hearing damage until its too late, so its up to iPod users and, for younger users, their parents to take proper precautions early on. While this may sound preachy, your ears cannot be replaced, and hearing damage is permanent. If you love music, youll want to listen to it for your entire life; if you lose your hearing, youll be missing one of the greatest joys of this world. With that in mind, if you develop any of the symptoms mentioned above, see an ear specialist and have your hearing checked to make sure there is no damage. And, dont forget, hearing aids cost a lot more than iPods and dont look as cool.
44. Quiet to very loud
Think of mellow ambient music on the low end and death metal on the high end. But the classification does not only depend on genre. A jazz album, with a brass section, may be as loud as a hard rock album, and a Mahler symphony can easily hit 120 dB. In fact, many classical musicians now wear earplugs that reduce the volume of sound without deforming it. Can you imagine what it must be like to be sitting right in front of the French horn around 100 dB in an orchestra?
45. Your Ears and Your ipod
So youve just received a new iPod welcome to the family! More likely than not, youre already planning to convert your CD collection or download iTunes Music Store songs, and youre anxious to start listening with your own pair of Apples famous white earbuds. Of course, youll find virtually everything you need to start enjoying digital music inside the box.
46. Keep it low
So what can be done? Unfortunately, there is no cure, and no real fix, for damaged hearing. However, as the National Institutes of Health succinctly puts it, NIHL is 100 percent preventable.
47. Understanding hearing loss
The concept of permanent hearing damage for most people involves sounds present at or above the threshold of pain, which occurs at 130dB. Such damage is generally reversed in 16 to 48 hours, but hearing loss can be irreversible if the cochlear cells inner ear are damaged. This sort of ear trauma is caused by exposure to transient sounds such as explosions or passing jet planes in proximity to the listener.
48. Iems and Auditory Damage
Lets just get this most common myth out of the way IEMs are more dangerous due to their proximity to the eardrum. This couldnt be further from the truth. When used in the right manner, they are just as innocuous as your regular earbuds or headphones. In fact, the way they function makes them less likely to cause ear damage. Its all down to the physics.
49. Getting a Right Seal
The above example should explain why IEMs are best suited for outdoor usage thanks to the excellent mechanical dampening afforded by their airtight seal. This is largely dependent on choosing the right sized ear tip though. More often than not, the average user ends with one that cannot ensure a good seal. This is mainly because the typical Indian ear auditory canal is smaller than its American or European counterpart. Using the default medium sized tip, therefore, is a bad idea for the average Indian.
50. Maintaining a Safe Volume Limit
Although IEMs provide noise attenuation, they arent perfect. With high enough ambient noise, theres a risk of cranking up the volume levels beyond the threshold of safe hearing. The best way to prevent that is by determining this threshold and making a point not to exceed that volume level.
