Sanjeev Balyan is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and has won the Indian general elections, 2014 from the Muzaffarnagar (Lok Sabha constituency). He defeated Kadir Rana of BSP by a margin of more than 4 lakh votes. He has been appointed as minister of state for Agriculture and food processing in NDA Govt, 2014. He hails from the Jat background.Dr Sanjeev Balyan,is a PhD in Veterinary Anatomy from the Haryana Agricultural University. He has served as an Assistant Professor and as a veterinary surgeon with the Haryana Government. A practising veterinary doctor, Balyan, who took oath as a Minister of State yesterday, had joined BJP only one-and-a-half-years ago.A Jat and a native of Kutba village in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, he was jailed for about one month during the pre-emptive action taken before the Muzaffarnagar riots broke out.Balyan, elected from Muzaffarnagar, is among two party MPs from Western UP who have been given representation in Modis ministerial council. Ghazibad MP and former Army chief V K Singh is the other MP from the region. Balyan was part of a mahapanchayat held last year despite prohibitory orders that allegedly inflamed tensions. He was charged by the police with violation of prohibitory orders and promoting enmity between two communities. BJP has maintained that Baliyan was framed in a politically motivated case.

He was elected to 12th Lok Sabha in a bye-election held on 25 November 1998 from Bharuch (formerly known as Broach) in Gujarat. He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014 from the same constituency.

He is a member of the Indian Parliament, and currently represents Lohardaga (Lok Sabha constituency).The BJP on Monday hailed induction of tribal MP Sudarshan Bhagat in the Narendra Modi Council of Ministers.Sudarshan Bhagat has ministerial experience as he been twice minister in Jharkhand. He will live up to the expectation reposed on him, BJP leader Ramesh Puskar said in Ranchi.Puskar, who like Bhagat began his career from Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, also congratulated his senior on becoming a member in the Narendra Modi Council of Ministers.Bhagat is the lone face among the 12 BJP MPs from Jharkhand.
