beat the heat

Beat The Heat

Come summer and it's time to think of ways to beat the heat. Here are few innovative ways.
21. Spice it up
This is a tip specifically for people living in tropical climate. Chillies contain a compond 'capsicin' which makes you perspire profusely and as the sweat evaporates, it will cool you down.
22. Rehydrate often
Perspiration evaporates water from your body. It is essential to rehydrate it by replenishing it. Avoid having beverages that contain alcohol, caffeine, or lots of sugar, as they are all dehydrating. Have more of hydrating foods like watermelon or smoothies.
23. Eat light
Eat a lot of fruits and salads as they are easily digestable and are light on stomach. They also contain a lot of water to hydrate your body and keep you cool.
24. Use soft lighting
Keep the lighting of the house soft. Go for Compact Flourescent Light bulbs - they reduce the heat and save electricity too.
25. Take off your shoes
Take off your shoes as soon as you enter home. As the sweat on your feet will evaporate, it will cool the skin and the blood of your feet. The Blood vessels then whisk that blood to other parts of the body, so you get the sensation of coolness.
26. Keep doors and windows closed
If the temperature outside is more than twenty five degrees celcius (most people start sweating at 26 degrees)even without the air conditioner, keeping the doors and windows closed would cool you off. Whenever the outside air is hotter than the inside air, opening a window invites heat to creep in.
27. Spritz yourself
Fill a spray bottle with water and keep it in the refrigerator. When the going gets hot, give yourself a good squirt. As the water will evaporate, it will cool you off. Spray on your wrists first to keep you cool for a longer time.
28. Fan strategically
Put the air conditioner at lower power and stay cool if the fan is blowing over. As the air conditioner removes humidity from the air, the fan speed will help evaporate sweat and keep the heat away from your body. Fans make you cooler as they evaporate your sweat, so switch them off when you move out of the room.
29. Dress right
Wear synthetic fabrics like Coolmax and Nano-Tex... they're not just for athletes. Wear thin, light colored, and, most of all, loose cotton clothes. Cotton clothes allow air movement next to the skin and help with evaporation.
30. Natural Airconditioner
By placing a bowl of ice in front of a fan you can enjoy the cool breeze. Tthe ice will melt and then the water will evaporate thereby cooling you off.
